I turned this poem into a song for a lyric contest. I had to cut a lot of it out because the limit for the contest is 125 words. Tell me what you think and cross your fingers for me to do well in the contest...
A boy just pulled the trigger back,
Because life’s full of pain.
A girl sits, emotions crushed,
Because others are so vain.
We walk around, heads in the clouds,
But, if we’d only look,
We’d notice the blunt horrors,
Of the hope that’s being took.
We eat, we sleep, we talk just like,
The selfish beings we are.
We are so blessed, fate’s on our side,
While many millions starve.
So, now lie down and push away,
Your dear old sense of greed.
Stop and take the hands,
Of the helpless you can lead.
You think you’re a good person,
You’re not doing something wrong.
What’s wrong’s what you’re not doing,
Because you don’t care for long.
Hero’s are dying every day,
For those they’ll never meet,
And you can’t spare some spare change,
For the beggar on the street.
Hold the hand of a small child,
Let him know that someone’s there.
Sit with a crying stranger,
Tell her not all life’s unfair.
Look down from the mountain,
That we place ourselves upon.
Civilize and join the fight,
Before the chance is gone.
I’ve seen that I was blind before,
I know what I must do.
Help pull the wool back from your eyes.
I need the help of you.
